Lunchtime waste sorting!

Come and see your kids at lunch AND help make a difference!
D64 schools have compost and recycling bins at lunch time as part of their commitment to sustainability.
We are looking for 1-2volunteers at lunch to make sure kids are properly sorting their food waste. There is a composting bin for any food waste and paper/cardboard.
Recycling is for certain plastics, cardboard, empty milk and water bottles.
Trash is for any other waste not applicable to the compost or recycling bin. Signs are posted to remind children what goes in what bin. A video is linked here so you can see how it works.
Hours are
11:30-12:35 Monday Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
11:05-12:10 on Wednesdays
The bins get very busy right before the bell rings - if you can, remind kids to sort their waste BEFORE coming to the waste station.
You must check in at the front desk before lunch for a school ID, even if lunch is outside.
Gloves, cleaning wipes and tongs will be provided in case you want to reach into one of the bins, they are stored in the Quest lunch room.
Maintenance staff will empty and move the bins after each lunch period. Do not empty or move them.
The key is to encourage the students to use the correct bins. If in doubt, throw it out, and realize the kids are learning too.
